The Geographical Information Center (GIC) at CSU, Chico was started in 1990 by the Department of Geography and Planning to introduce northern California to geographical information systems (GIS) technology. We are housed on the first floor of the 35 Main Building in downtown Chico, on the eastern edge of the campus.

The GIC has two major goals. Our first goal is to educate. Most of our employees are hired as interns after having completed the undergraduate GIS and cartography curriculum. The GIC staff includes professionals with extensive training mentoring qualified graduates, student assistants and interns.

Our second goal is to develop relationships with local public and private mapping agencies. As our nation moves further into an infomational age, many agencies don't know how to begin this transition. The GIC has proven adept at assisting agencies in this period of rapid technological change.

The GIC serves a diverse clientele. Our projects fall primarily into one of two categories: government resource agencies and local government. We also welcome work from the non-profit and private sector.
